The train in this set is a new green coloration of the original Tomy Train steam engine. Its freight train includes a blue container car, yellow log tipper, and new matching green caboose. 1991 production examples would have included the studded type of locomotive and caboose roof but this 1993 example has the later flat type.
The figures in this set have magnets in the feet to properly interact with the magnetic freight station base. The log truck has a tipping truck bed to allow it to deliver logs.
The main destination included in the set is the new-for-1991 Freight Station and Depot. This functioning log loader allows you to unload logs from the log truck, lift them up the lift, roll down and collect in the chute, and then be loaded into the train as it passes. The small trackside log depot will tip the tipper wagon and collect any logs the train is carrying when it passes.
The engine shed has a track base with studs and an integrated stop and reverser rail. There are two wall pieces as well as a roof that form the shed, with a maintenance sign and worker that swing down from the ceiling when the orange buttons on top are pressed.
This revised Tomy Train 3 shows off some of the new accessories that Tomy has added to the range since the series started, and I think updating the older sets is a good way to keep up with changes to the range.
The revised 1991 Tomy Train 3 remained in the European range through 1994 and 1995 before being discontinued before the 1996 Tomy Trains range.
