fall inside a hole

Vintage Tomy Super Rail layout photos

Included with one of the Super Rail sets I bought were five old photographs showing two different Super Rail setups that were probably built in the later 1970s or early 1980s. I think it is incredibly interesting to see how children actually set up and play with these toys at the time when they were new, and as there is no identifying information in any of them I will show them here out of historical interest.

The first layout has an inner and outer lower loop with a raised loop in the middle and a few branches. Look at all the boxes off to the sides... there is a Bandai Mini Mini Rail box in the back of the first photo, as well as some Neo Hi-Tops hanging around

Whoever had this setup was a fan of elevating the double-track point rails... it appears in both of the layouts that there seems to be photos of. There is a hole from a thumbtack in some of these pictures, so they were probably hung up in the child's room at some point. The layout has a DD-20 with freight train, a Hikari, and a D-51 with passenger car

There are two photos of this even larger layout that has a double-track outer loop that elevates alongside a similar double crossover switch junction with an elevated loop. The railroad crossing is now elevated and the tunnel, probably from the Tohoku Joetsu Shinkansen with Headlights Set the photos were found inside, dating this photo to 1982 or later. This kid had a fairly sizeable collection... I currently (mid 2025) don't have hardly any elevated Super Rail components nor any functioning crossover point rails.
