My Rail No. 2 Points Train Set

Originally written September 30, 2025

The Yonezawa My Rail No. 2 Points Train Set (マイレールのNO.2) was one of the initial My Rail series and was also sold with the D-51 steam locomotive and tanker as shown here as well as with the three-car Hikari train.

This example was unused and in pretty nice condition with the instructions and a My Rail catalogue.

The classic D-51 steam locomotive is an early choice for many Japanese toy train systems, and My Rail was no different, representing D 51 516 as one of its initial and seemingly only trains. The locomotive was sold individually with tender.

The No. 2 set includes a yellow tanker for the locomotive to pull. Seemingly with age the tension that the ladders on the side of the car have split away at the top.

The track for this series was based on the earlier and even shorter-lived Chibi Poppo series. The left turnout rails include a manual switch while the right-hand ones send an incoming train straight through whilst properly returning incoming trains from the branch out onto the entrance line.

There are standard overhead wire catenaries as well as a type with signal lights and a reversing lever - these can be used to flip the reversing lever sticking out of the top of the trains and reverse them. Both semaphore and light-type signals were produced.

A folded instruction sheet was tucked inside the catalogue taped to the inner plastic tray. There is an alternate layout that has two branches coming off a circle with the reversing pylons towards either end. The sheet has battery installation for all three trains in the series - the couplings for some of the cars are also slightly different, and shown.

Because the left turnout is the only one that is controllable, it is best to run trains around counter-clockwise.

The reversing feature works alright - the reversing switches look a little funny sticking out of the top of the trains, but the overhead catenaries with signal and reversing levers is a neat idea. Overall, like how Shushupoppo was perhaps not as complex or well thought-out as Super Rail, My Rail was outclassed by the reversing Action Series Mini Mini Rail.
