Plarail Percy and Rocky (2011)

First written March 9, 2025

In November 2011 Tomy began selling a Thomas Plarail three-pack style release with a surprised Percy and Rocky, who had previously been released in the export Motor Road & Rail range as well as in a few Plarail packs.

T-28 Plarail Percy and Rocky (November 2011)

Plarail Percy & Rocky (プラレールパーシー&ロッキー) was released in November 2011 and was the last new release in the classic "T series" Thomas Plarail range. The pack includes a Percy with the surprised expression first used in the Thomas the Tank Engine and Percy and the Dragon Set as well as Rocky the crane.

TS-17 Plarail Percy and Rocky (June 2012)

On June 14, 2012 an updated CGI box in the new TS series was released for the Percy and Rocky pack. During this period of production the grey paint used for the running boards as well as many parts of Rocky was noticeably more blue than previous production periods.

This example was released in August 2015 - it seems like a lot of the rest of the range started using a new grey color that was darker than the 2000s whitish grey, but Percy and Rocky continued to use the more bluish color into at least 2019 (as shown below) for some reason. The disparity between the blueish grey and older 2000s grey can be most easily noticed when comparing Rocky's roof to the grey sticker on the back of his cab covering the original winch control switch hole. This Rocky's right piston has fallen off at some stage, which seems to be somewhat common.

TS-17 Plarail Percy and Rocky (2018)

In 2018 a refreshed darker blue box for the Percy and Rocky pack was released, as seen in this 2019 example where the ST19 mark is actually a sticker over the original ST18 print run. The stamped date on the box and train date to June 2019.

The grey paint used on Rocky's decks and roofs continued to be slightly bluish...

Percy likewise has an almost bluish running board... I think this looks worse than the regular older grey. Percy is stamped under the front of the chassis with the date of production, June 2nd 2019.

These Rockys lack the cool motorized features of the original European Motor Road & Rail release, but the articulated features are all still present. This is almost certainly the last release of Plarail Percy and Rocky...
