Thomas the Tank Engine Rail Map (2007)

First written June 29, 2024

The Rail Map Thomas the Tank Engine (レールマップきかんしゃトーマス) is a Thomas-series Plarail set released in March 2007 featuring Thomas and a folding-out rail map section that can connect to regular Plarail track. This was part of a small series of similar sets, the other three of which used traditional Plarail trains. One side of the box is orientated in landscape while the "rear" is portrait and has a suggested expansion layout.

The Thomas is this small set is a standard circa-2007 example with the smaller rear lamp sticker.

The only other component in this set is the fold-out map section. The top side has some integrated turnout rails and curves that are actually tighter than standard curve rails. The two sections are hinged in the middle with a short filler section so that it can fold flat. The bottom is marked 2006 and Tomy.

There are holes in the base of the map that standard Plarail accessories can be fit into.

This is certainly the smallest Thomas Plarail set, really more of an accessory, and it is the result of Tomy always trying out new ideas for the Plarail range. It does not seem that any of these maps sets were very popular.
