In October 2012 Tomy released the Fire-Engine Flynn and Diesel 10 Set (消防車フリンとディーゼル10セット) as part of the Thomas Plarail range to go along with the Thomas and Friends DVD Day of the Diesels, in which Flynn was introduced.
Inside the two trains are packaged together with lots of blocks of expanded foam.
These Flynns were the first sold as a three-car set, and the ladders are yellow instead of the gold used on the later individual three-piece release.
Like all other Plarail Flynns, they are made in Vietnam. The date code on the bottom says this Flynn was made on September 20, 2012, which is probably around when most of these Diesel 10 pack Flynns were manudactured.
The pack includes a standard Diesel 10 hauling a neat black tanker with wasp stripe stickers. Like other releases, Pinchy opens and closes. Diesel 10 seems to have been produced for these packs before the Flynns.
Diesel 10 is the primary villain of the DVD special, and I think it boosted his popularity with children during the CGI era. Its really just a standard engine... it and the tanker were both manufactured in Thailand. Is it funny to say that the tanker is probably my favorite part of the pack? I've sought out a second one, ending up with the additional Diesel 10 and variant Flynn in the process...
