Tomy Thomas All Aboard Set (2005)

First written June 25, 2024

The 4741 Thomas All Aboard Set is a small 2005 American Thomas Motorized Road & Rail set with Thomas, Ffarquhar station, and a small looping layout that incorporates several switches. Despite what the box shows, the set does not include the nicer Plarail-style Thomas, just a regular export Thomas.

This was the only Thomas Motorized Road & Rail/export Plarail toy that I had as a kid - I got it at a Day Out With Thomas event and I did not see any more Tomy trains until finding it at thrift stores and garage sales years later. I reconfigured the available rails over and over to try and make interesting layouts, but I never had anything for Thomas to pull...

12 Curve Rail
1 Stop Rail
2 pairs Turnout Rail
2 pieces Ffarquhar Station

Although the box for the set shows the nicely-decorated Plarail style Thomas, the set includes the standard export Tomy Thomas with new logo chassis. Unfortunately, there is nothing included in this set for Thomas to pull.

The station in this set has the updated 2002 date bottom with new logo but still the older style of station building that fits down into the base properly.

The single-sided instructions. This set was only released in the United States.

I remember seeing Tomy trains and track on the 10 Years of Thomas VHS as a kid and wanting to build with the track system so bad... When I got this set, I did had fun with it, but it was not until years later when I started to buy TrackMaster and used Tomy trains that I started to be able to build the more complicated layouts that I wanted to as a kid and have engines that were actually pulling trains.

The same track layout was used in a pull-back set aimed at younger children.
