Odoriko 251 series

First written July 10, 2024

The Super View Odoriko or Super View Dancer is a limited express service on the Tokaido main line. From 1990 to 2020 the service was handled by the 251 series Super View Dancer, first released in Plarail in its original grey livery in 1991.

Super View Dancer (1991)

The first Plarail 251 series Super View Dancer (スーパービュー踊り子号) was released in 1991 in sixth generation packaging. On the real 251 series trains, the lead and tail cars and the first intermediate car are all double-decker while the other cars are high-deck cars, and the three double-decker cars are all represented in the Plarail version. The original silvery-grey-light-blue color scheme is also represented, and this was an early Plarail train to use grey wheels.

The front and rear have nice large windows, with the upper layer deck also having plastic glazing inserts and the bottom row of windows left open.

My example does not have its original production sticker intact. The chassis is the updated new-power squarish subway train chassis. My example uses the old single-split couplings.

In 1994 the Super View Dancer was rereleased in seventh generation packaging. With the real trains getting a new blue-skirted livery in the early 2000s, the refreshed S-14 Super View Dancer in 2003 featured the updated blue color scheme.
