Mighty Mac is a narrow-gauge Double Fairlie locomotive with two steam engines and thus two faces. With Tomy releasing other narrow gauge characters in the mid 2000s and Mighty Mac being introduced to the television show in 2005 a Plarail and Motor Road & Rail type Mighty Mac in 2006.
Mighty Mac was first released as part of the European Motor Road & Rail range in 2006. This release included only the single power car, not the second standard coach included with the regular Plarail release. Tomy-produced Mighty Macs with power car were also released in Tomy TrackMaster packaging in the U.K. in 2008.
Mighty Mac's engine portion lets the upper portion flip around to change which face is facing forward. The mechanism is spring-loaded and a curved section on top of the chassis assists in flipping the engine around.
Mighty Mac's middle two wheels are on a boogie that can raise and lower. Although the individual release Mighty Mac was never sold in the United States, he was included with single powered coach in the 2006 Thomas Ultimate Set.
Mighty Mac was released in a Plarail three-pack form as T-30プラレールマイティマック T-30 Plarail Mighty Mac in T series packaging with the coach power car and a second unpowered narrow gauge coach on September 21, 2006.
