Tomica World Steam Train Set (2001)

In 2001 the Steam Train Set was released in Europe as part of the Tomica World export range. The set comes in a bucket that has room for the set and additional components and a lid that can be used as rail and an accessory base.
The set is a basic oval with a C12-hauled livestock train. It is catalogue number 7417.

The train in this set is a standard new-power C-12 steam locomotive hauling a cattle van and a guard's brakevan.
The C-12 was manufactured in February 2001. It uses the longer, flatter style of new power gearbox used in the new-power D51 and some other trains that were late to be converted from the old friction-drive system because of their internal space.
The livestock wagon has opening doors that slide a pig or cow into view. The cattle van actually appears to be a unique variation - there are apparently late Japanese-market livestock cars do have the added axleboxes in the chassis tooling, but all of the Japanese releases have yellow wheels, not red. Perhaps the wheels were changed to make the train match? I am not absolutely sure if the Japanese-market van was still in regular production by 2001... I think there are late Japanese-market black brake vans with axleboxes and red wheels.
The set comes in a plastic bucket with a double rail section of track on the top of the lid. The lid and internal bucket handle have the original Plarail text still in them, as the tooling was used for the Cleaning Bucket Set and other releases. The lid also serves as a base for accessories.
A lighter green tree, a signal, and the lesser-spotted-in-export-sets single overhead wire holders are included to slot into the lid.
The track is a simple oval with early 2000s rail from before the addition of the squared-off Tomy logo in the text.
Set up the accessories on the base are pretty nice and I like the train but the endless oval is a very simple layout... most other bucket sets take advantage of both tracks, and some also come with the red Iron Bridge side sections that slot into the lid... Its a little lackluster.
