In 1997 Tomy established October 14th as Plarail Day, releasing a special limited release train on that day every year for many years, with the Plarail Fan Club starting around the same time. One of the rewards for membership was a yearly exclusive release around Plarail Day, which in 2001 was a set of 193-series line inspection cars.
These trains use the same tooling as the period L Limited Express but in a special livery with matching stickers. I think it looks pretty nice.
The two-car train uses a two-speed new power gearbox. The tooling for the L Limited had already been updated with the new Tomy logo by this point in later 2001. The tail car has remnants of the clip protruding upwards from the mid 1980s radio control L Limited.
These trains were manufactured in September 2001. The bent-forward battery contact implies this train has never been run. There is no headmark on the train, and unlike most other trains the headlight stickers are actually clear, probably because it was easier to do this way than try to match the stripe of color on the train.
