The Eurostar is a passenger service in Europe that connects the U.K., France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium by rail that began operations in 1994. In the later 90s as Tomy began to produce more detailed and niche trains as well as selling the Tomica World range overseas it made sense to produce a few international trains like the TGV and Virgin Express. The Plarail Eurostar depicts the Eurostar e300 or class 373 series of trains, the original type used on services between France and the U.K. via the Channel Tunnel.
On August 21st, 1998 the Eurostar train was released for the Japanese Plarail system.
The molding on all the cars is pretty nice, with pantograph detailing and even different ends on each side of the intermediate car.
In 1999 the Eurostar train was released for the export Tomica World series in Europe. An updated box with the new blue Tomy logo appeared in the 2000s.
The Eurostar train shown on this page is a Tomica World release. This is the newest production regular Tomica World train I have come across, being manufactured in December 2003! This was after regular Japanese production of the Eurostar concluded earlier in 2003.
