J-10 Signal (1978)

The battery-powered Signal (しんごうき) was first released in 1978 with a green base and included stop rail. The signal itself connects to the stop rail and the lever on the outside passes through to change the color of the signal along with the position of the stop rail.

A metal rod shifts a carrier with an incandescent bulb between the red or blue signal lens. Around 1988 it was given the designation J-10 Signal (J-10 信号機).

These signals were first produced in Japan and later Thailand, where the battery compartments were marked with a standard production code.

Signal and Stop Track (TomyTrain) (1988)

In 1988 a version of the electric signal was released for the TomyTrain system in Europe and America with red and green lenses. This version has a studded base but is mechanically similar and still uses two AA batteries.

In the early 2000s when the Plarail range was refreshed the base was changed to red with the new squared-off Tomy logo.
