Plarail Sleeper Express Highland Station Set (1975)

The Sleeper Express Highland Station Set (しんだいとっきゅう こうげんのえきセット) released in 1975 with the new Sleeper Express train and showing off the also-new ringing Highland Station.
The box has a 1974 ST mark and a late 1974-1975 G-23 production mark, so it was likely developed in 1974 and commercialized in 1975. There are instructions for the power car and station on the opposite side. Earlier in 1975 a very similar set with the ringing station but the D51 Express Train instead of the Sleeper Express was released, which is less common than this set... With the Sleeper Express being a sought-after train, this set is more desired.

The train in this set is the rather elegant Sleeper Express train, the 581/583 series trains... This train was new for 1975 and appeared in a few 1970s sets.
Being from the mid 1970s, the couplings and the power car's rear wheels are the older types.
1975 was the second year of roughtop surface rails, and the track in this set is the early type with no MADE IN JAPAN mark like later roughtop rail.
The highlight accessory is the Highland Station, which had a raised platform on the train side, an exterior ticket window, interior details, and a crank on top to ring the bell contained inside the roof.
The stickers are pretty nice too.
The set also includes a standard tree and sticker-type signal as well as a row of trees and four red overhead catenaries.
The layout is nothing crazy, but the accessories are very nice and it is a beautiful train, it almost makes up a little diorama in itself...
